I submitted my Cyber Essentials assessment too early or need to change an answer. What should I do?

How to get your Cyber Essentials assessment sent back if you submitted it by mistake or need to change an answer.

Once you submit your assessment, it goes to our assessors and is locked while they review it. If you submitted it by mistake or need to change an answer, you can either reopen it yourself or ask our Support team to send it back to you. You won't lose any of your answers.

If you submitted by mistake

First submission: you can reopen it yourself by withdrawing the declaration, as long as it hasn't been signed yet.

  1. Go to the declaration stage of your certification.

  2. Select Withdraw declaration.

  3. Your assessment returns to In progress, so you can edit your answers.

  4. When you're ready, resend the declaration to your signatory.

Already resubmitted (for example, after answering your assessor's questions): you can't withdraw it yourself. Contact our Support team via live chat or at support@cybersmart.co.uk with your organisation name, and we'll send it back to you. Refresh the page and it will show as Requires Attention.

If your assessor has sent questions back

When your assessment comes back with queries, you can only edit the questions the assessor has reopened. The rest stay locked while the assessment is with the assessors.

To change an answer that wasn't queried, you can either:

  • Resubmit your assessment, then contact Support with the question numbers you need to change. We'll send it back with those questions reopened.

  • Send us your updated answer in chat, and we'll update it for you.

Good to know

  • Your answers are kept when an assessment is sent back to you.

  • Click Finish Later to save your progress at any time.

  • Assessors send questions back with comments rather than failing your assessment. You can resubmit as many times as you need, at no extra cost.

  • Want to talk it through? Ask Support to book you a call with an assessor.
